John Randall Sage

DWS: From email 10 Feb 2012 christa.roenfanz@gmail.com
"Dear Doug,

We are related in some round about way, I believe! Ha!

I followed your prepared descendancy report of Nicholas Clapp Sr. down
through the Sages

John Randall Sage b. 1781 and (Mary) Polly Irish b. 1781. You don't
have the Mary, but everything matched so far!

They had a daughter: Sarah Ann(e) Sage b.1811. in Bleinheim,
Schoharie, NY d. 21 Jul 1904 in Oneonta, Otesgo, NY.

She is my 4th great grandmother.

She married Ira Darling b. 28 Jan 1802 in Bristol, Schoharie, NY and
died 23 Apr 1849. I am unsure how many children they had. However, I
do know of Mary Anne Darling b. 24 Feb 1840 (my third
great-grandmother). I do not know when they married. I am still
hunting for information about them. She more than likely remarried
also.

Anyway, I have information that I can share, if you are still looking
for information concerning the children of John Randall Sage and Mary
Polly Irish.

Best wishes,
Christa"

Samuel Bennet

DWS: from Northrup, Guilford Smith, Genealogy of Josiah Munroe, revolutionary soldier, who died in the service of the Continental Army at Valley Forge, February 19, 1778
St. Johns, Mich.: G.S. Northrup, 1912, 438 pgs.
pg 149
"THE ELIZABETH (MONROE) BENNET LINE.
Two of Josiah Monroe's daughters married sons of James Bennett. Elizabeth (No. 46) married Samuel Bennett, who was a soldier in the Connecticut line during the Revolutionary war. He served in Captain Abel's Company and was taken a prisoner at Fort Washington. Neither the date of his birth nor the date of his death has been discovered; but in his application for a pension (dated 1831), he states his age as seventy-four years. Hence, he must have been born about 1757, The Bennett family resided in Windham county, Connecticut. In 1784 Samuel and his wife removed to Pawlet, Vermont, where they died.
Their only child, Elizabeth, (the second name may have been Rachel) married Benjamin Sage. He was descended from David Sage, who came from Wales to Middleton, Connecticut, in 1652. David was born in 1639; married Elizabeth Kirby, February, 1664, and died March, 1703. Their son, John, (born 1668) married Hannah Starr ; their son Benjamin (born 1703) married Mary Allen; their son, Benjamin, (born 1725) married Abigail Blinn. Their son, Benjamin, (born 1754) was the father of Benjamin Sage (born 1774), who married Elizabeth Bennett.
Four children were the result of this union, but John Wesley (No. 1500) was killed by an explosion during a Fourth of July celebration when he was fourteen years old. The other children married and had families. The present genealogy gives all the descendants of the oldest son, Samuel Bennet,
(No. 1499), and the youngest son, Benjamin, (No. 1502).
pg 150
But it was not possible to get the records of the descendants of the daughter, Elizabeth, who is reported to have married the Rev. Horace Davis at Pawlet, Vermont, and shortly afterwards moved to Richland township, Oswego county, New York. From Richland "they went west about seventy years ago." One record says they went to Lenawee county, Michigan, and another record says to Waukesha county, Wisconsin. But careful investigation in both these localities failed to get track of any of their descendants, and the assumption is that they must have located elsewhere. Three children are reported to have been born them before they left Richland.
Of the 167 descendants of Elizabeth (Monroe) Bennett given in this work, 126 are living, and located in the following states: Minnesota, 20; Wisconsin, 19; Michigan, 16; New York, 11; Nebraska. 11: California. 9: Oregon. 9: Iowa. 6: Ohio. 4; Illinois, 4; Indiana, S; North Dakota, 3; Rhode Island, 2; Texas, 1; and Canada, 6. The whereabouts of three are unknown."

BENNETT, SAMUEL, from Canterbury, Conn., 1784; settled near his brother Aaron. His only daughter married Benjamin Sage, and raised a family of three sons and one daughter, Samuel, Wesley, who was killed by the premature explosion of a gun on independence day, 1816, and Benjamin, Jr.
