"Gershom organized one of the first churches in Worcester. Worship service was conducted in his home until the church was built. In 1736, Gershom built a homestead, and over the next 152 years, 5 generations (31 children) of Rices were born in this house. Gershom gave the land to Pakachoag Church to be used for a school."

"PETER,3 b. 7 Apr. 1654, in Sudbury ; m. 2 Jan. 1677-8, Elizabeth Rice of Marlboro (some records say Elizabeth Reid, but it should be Rice), b. 26 Oct. 1656. Peter3 Haynes had been impressed into service 27 Nov. 1675. Is styled Sergeant. On 1 Dec. 1675, three townsmen, of Sudbury Militia, petitioned the 'hon'r Gov. & Council of yee Mass. Colony,' for the release of five Sudbury men, Peter Haynes being one of them, 'considering their condition as a frontier town.' Peter Haynes is mentioned on Sudbury West Side Church List of 18 Mar. 1724-5. He d. 6 Jan. 1748-9; wife d. 22 Dec. 1727. He was undoubtedly one of the defenders of the Haynes Garrison House when it was attacked by the Indians during King Philip's War, 21 Apr. 1676."

" The Blue Book says Phineas4 was drowned June 1772. 'Was drowned in a brook just below Lanham bridge.' His will was filed in the Middlesex Co. Probate Court 24 Sept. 1771. Peter Haynes, Executor. This Peter may have been his nephew, son of his brother Daniel, or his brother Peter, though as the latter was then 86 years of age, it was probably his nephew. Phineas4 never married. He signed as Witness to a deed, 2 Apr. 1723. Was impressed for Expedition Against Crown Point, Cap't John Nixon's Co. 1756. Then called Ser'j't. See Chap. on French and Indian War, p. 43."

"43 Serg't Phinehas4 Haynes is mentioned as having enlisted in the Spring of 1756 in the Co. of Cap't John Nixon, being hired to go 'in place of one James Puffer, with a fine of Ten pounds and ye Bounty.' 'Cap't John Noyes, for a reward, hired one Benjamin Bill a youth of this town, who had been refused to pass Muster before the oforesaid Muster master, and in ord'r to make him appear what he was not, Dress'd him or Cloathed him in severall Jackits, Shirts, &c, & carried him, at the time when ye Company was to march, before one Cap't John Nickson, under whose Command the Sd Haynes was to go: and persuaded the Sd Cap't Nickson to Receive him in the room of the S'd Haynes.' (Dr. Stearns' Mss.). Phineas4 Haynes was then 56 years of age, having been born 20 May 1700. On the 30 May 1771 he was 'drowned in a brook just below Lanham bridge' so he may have been in poor health in 1756."

the Edmund Rice Assn ERA gedcom: "Extensive testing of the Y DNA among the male-line descendants of Edmund Rice has included descendants of all three sons of Gershom Rice (WRN 41) and has revealed that two of them, Abishai and Matthias, do not share the DNA haplotype of Edmund Rice, but rather the haplotype of early Connecticut settler Robert Royce. The test results tell us that Gershom was not the biological father of these two. There is no such test available to determine the paternity of the daughters. In any case, it is clear that all six children were raised equally as children of Gershom.[:CR:]"

James Rice was born on 31 March 1669 at Marlborough, MA; (WARD & Rice Gen'l Register indicate date of birth of 6 March 1669).4,2,3,5 He was the son of Thomas Rice and Mary King.6 James Rice married Sarah Stone, daughter of Deacon Daniel Stone and Mary Moore.1,2 James Rice died on 14 October 1730 at Worcester, MA.7,8
He was living in 1706 at Sudbury, MA.7 He was named in the will of Mary King; "May 10, in the 8th year (1710) of Queen Ann's reign", proved April 11, 1715, gave to sons Thomas of Marlboro, Peter, Nathaniel, Ephraim, Gershom, James, Jonas and Elisha, to daughters Mary White, Sarah Adams, Frances Allen and Grace Moore.4 James Rice resided circa 1716 at Worcester, MA.7 He had 100 acres of land granted him in Worcester in 1718, of which town he was a proprietor.7 On 19 June 1730, after the deaths of his sons Daniel and James, James the father was granted administration of their estates. However, he in turn died before he could settle those estates.9 On 23 November 1730, James' eldest son Jotham took over administration of all three estates: father James and brothers Daniel and James.9

Daniel, son of John Duncan, was born in Billerica, February 13, 1711-12. He was a soldier in the revolution from Petersham in the guards under Colonel Loammi Baldwin in May, 1775, also in Captain Joel Fletcher's company, Colonel Ephraim Doolittle's regiment, and in Captain John Callender's company, Colonel Richard Gridley's regiment of artillery in 1775. He married Sarah Rice, of Conway, born February 9, 1703, died at Petersham, December 10, 1781, dughter of Gershom Rice, born May 9, 1667,. died December 19, 1768, aged one hundred and one years, son of Thomas Rice. Gershom Rice resided in Groton, Connecticut, and removed to Marlborough, Massachusetts, before October 13, 1713; was one of those who wished to renew the settlement at Worcester, whither he went in 1715 and had a grant of eighty acres in 1718; was the second settler of the third and permanent settlement of Worcester, his brother, Jonas Rice, being the first; the first town meeting was at his house, and he planted the first orchard in Worcester; married Elizabeth Balcom, born August 16, 1672, daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Haynes) Balcom; children: Gershom, born 1696; Elizabeth, October 20, 1698; Abraham, October 16, 1701; Sarah, February 9, 1703, mentioned above; Mathias, January 26, 1707; Ruth, April 11, 1710. John Duncan, the ancestor of the line herein recorded, was born in Billerica, October 28, 1678. He was a weaver by trade. He came from Billerica to Worcester, Massachusetts, among the early settlers. He bought land, one hundred and three acres on North brook, October, 1722, of Gershom Rice. He married, June 16, 1701, Sarah, daughter of John Dutton. He and his wife Sarah deeded to son, John Jr., February 10, 1731-32, part of the homestead on North brook. He died at Worcester, December 15, 1739, aged sixty seven. John's will was dated November 30, 1739, and proved December 25, 1739, at Worcester, bequeathing to wife Sarah; children Simeon, John, Samuel, Daniel, Sarah Parmenter and Abigail. Children, born at Billerica: Sarah, June 14, 1703, married ?
