Stillman Burr

DWS: At one time it WAS believed STILLMAN was a son of Hezekiah Burr 1762-1840 and Mary Annable 1759-1848 of Fairfield CT. DWS believes this is INCORRECT. Per 1850, 1860 and 1870 census our Stillman was born in Massachusetts. More RESEARCH needed.
---
A son of the above Hezekia and Mary is SILLIMAN BURR. born in Fairfield, CT. Some researchers have confused Silliman Burr 1791-1878 with Stillman Burr 1797-1870. They attribute the wife Eliza Dimon to STILLMAN BURR- that is not correct. Eliza Dimon married SILLIMAN BURR.
----
Clues: there is a Rebecca Stillman Burr marriage rec to Ephram Robins on 8 May 1812 at Boston, MA
from ancestry.com in the Massachusetts, Town and Vital Records, 1620-1988
perhaps she is a sister to our Stillman? or at least a relative.
She is the dau of Samuel Burr and Rebecca Stillman. Perhaps Stillman Burr was her brother or a nephew?

DWS: Trudy Belcher in email below: she believes she has found proof that Stillman is the father of our Horace Burr. Quoted from below: "... I found that his father was Stillman BURR. I found it by going through his sister, Mary that m. Selah SAGE, a brother to Rutilla SAGE. ..."
[DWS: note Trudy passed away: 11 Jun 2007]
her last email to me
" I am still very much around. I have been in Olympia area since 1987 when I took early retirement. Esther, and family all had my address, Barbara Draper had it, as did Vernon, Pat Tryon etc. Don't know why they would not have given it out. I have sons John C. "Jack", and Gerry, who both live in Portland. The other two live in S. CA. one near Fresno, and the other in Bakersfield. Brother Bob, lives in Fontana, Irene still lives at the beach as far as I know, and Margaret in Florida. I haven't seen her since the 1950's.
I volunteer at the Olympia Family History Center on Mondays, have for a number of years and love it. I had it open today. The people that work are very appreciative when I keep it open on Holidays. I remember how I would be dissappointed when they were always closed when I would be off work and able to go.
I just couldn't afford to go to the last couple reunions. In fact, I think I was only to one of them since I moved here. Now I have the time, but not the money. Isn't that the way it goes?
I have a IBM clone 486 computer and use Family Tree Maker. A four inch floppy would be fine to send information on.
I used to write to a lady in Vancouver who worked on LUDWICK, but it wasn't ours. I had forgotten all about that one.
You are correct on Christopher being father of our Abraham LUDWICK, and his father is Jacob. Christopher m. Anna Marie HEFFNER, daughter of Matthias HEFFNER. Now there is another Christopher, the Baker for Geo Washington, that one is not ours. The will of Matthias HEFFNER shows Abraham LUDWICK m. Anna Maria HEFFNER, his daughter.
What do you have on Horace BURR & Rutilla SAGE:? I have the SAGE way back, but had been stuck on the BURR for years, then I found that his father was Stillman BURR. I found it by going through his sister, Mary that m. Selah SAGE, a brother to Rutilla SAGE. Then today, while at the Family History Center I did some more checking on the latest Ancestry Files and might have further back, have to check it out more. I can tell you all where Stillman BURR was found in the different census. In 1820 & 1830, he was in Cortland Co., Scott Twp, NY, in 1840 & 1850 census, he is in Ripley Co., IN, Franklin Twp. It shows him b. ca 1797 in MA. He is not listed in the 1860c, so probably died sometime between 1850 & 1860.
His wife is Serviah, b. ca 1792 in NY. They have a 15 yr old son, Orrin living at home in 1850, he was b. in NY. Horace and Rutilla also lived in Franklin Twp, p. 259B, in the 1850 census, with children, Ellen age 11, Jane age 10, Harriet age 8, Silas age 6, Fanny age 3, and Marvin age 2, all b. in IN.
Now in checking on the computer, I find Stillman BURR b. 1790, m. 2 times, but neither wife a Serviah. It lists him m. 7 Dec 1817 to Eliza DIMON & #2 16 Mar 1828 to Olive JENNINGS. The first marriage would be about right, Horace was b. 1818. I found another listing for Stillman and it gave his b. as 1796 I believe, with same wives. I suspect the Serviah was a second name.
I thought if I put it out, maybe everyone could do some research on it and see what happens. I am quite sure this has to be the one. It is the only Stillman in that time area that I could find. A couple generations back, it shows STILLIMAN as the maiden name and I suspected that. Here is the way the line goes, but no one shows our Horace as a child, in fact, they have a female listed with the 1818 b. of Fairfield CT.
Stillman BURR b. 1797 MA m. Serviah
son of Hezekiah BURR(ca1760) & Mary ANNABEL
son of Nathan BURR(1733) & Ruth JENNINGS
son of Nathaniel BURR(ca 1704) & Martha STILLIMAN(10 Nov 1706)
son of Daniel BURR(1677 CT) & Mary
son of Nathaniel BURR(1640) & Sarah WARDE
son of Jehue BURRE Sr(1596 Roxbury Suffolk, EN) & Elizabeth CABLE
Jeanne, doesn't that just make you sick after you were just in the area. If this is right, I have more on some of the other lines to fill in. I haven't checked this out on the World Family Tree yet, but we can all do that. I think that is what we all use.
Trudy "

" Stillman's place of birth doesn't seem to be Massachusetts based on the lack of birth certificate from a very organized state. I believe that if he was not born in MA that he was born in a neighboring state. My first guesses would be VT or NH.
There is a Stillman/Silliman Burr born 1790 in Fairfield, CT to Hezekiah Burr who passed in the same place in 1848. This is NOT the same man as our Stillman Burr who was born 1797-1800 in Massachusetts and lived past 1870.
Almost every tree with kids being attributed to Stillman Burr of CT are copied from other trees with no proof or attributed to a wife of his who died before Orin was born. I have never seen any documentation showing that CT Burr ever left the state.
Stillman has appeared in three key places: New York for Alvin's birth, Ripley, Indiana where Alvin first married and lived, and in Henderson, Illinois where Alvin's first wife died giving me a reason for them being in the state in the first place."
