describes him in his daughter Maria Constantia Theresia's birth record 19 Apr 1774 as a junior or beginning Judge
in his later children's birth records such as Victoria in 1789 he is an 'Erbricher' or hereditary Judge
He became an 'Erbrichter' (hereditary Judge) inherited title from his father-in-law Franz Werner because his first wife Viktoria Werner's brother Simon died about 2 Jun 1772. Simon was next in line for the hereditary judge title from his father Karl Joseph Werner so it passed to his sister's husband. See notes in Simon Werner.

Johann Haschke

DWS: I am not sure if the Johann Haschke of Girsig father of Thekla Haschke is the same Johann Haschke of Girsig son of Anton who married Klara Milsch? dau of Johann Milsch? of Zechan - see below. Need more search to prove mother of Thekla. Is the Johann who married 22 Oct 1787 in Girsig the father of our Thekla? Did he marry a 2nd time to Maria Magdalena Ludwig in 1791?

From papers of Josephine Schindler Rotert given to Doug Schueths
"THE THOENDEL FAMILY
Joseph Thoendel was born at Bergstat, Austria on August 23, 1865. He came to America with his widowed mother and three brothers and settled at Columbus, where the mother found work as a housekeeper for a widow with two boys. When Joseph was old enough to work he got a job on a farm. He worked around Columbus for a number of years, then came to Holt County. On October 27, 1891 he was married to Anna Crocker at Ewing by Father Walch. Anna Crocker Thoendel was also born at Bergstat, Austria on January 30, 1870 and she came to America with her parents Carl and Victoria Crocker. They landed in Columbus, Nebraska in 1887 where they had friends. Mr. Crocker was a coal miner in Austria, but on coming to Columbus he got work on a farm. There he worked until he had enough money to buy a team of horses, a covered wagon, a breaking plow and a few household utensils and in 1888 he loaded up his family of three girls, Anna, Bertha, and Rosa with his wife, Victoria, a month's supply of food and started for the Ewing community. It took them five days to come from Columbus to Ewing, where they settled on a homestead six miles south and three west of Ewing. They built a sod house on the banks of Cache Creek, so to be near water. They boiled the water from the creek for the family's use. They had very few neighbors at that time. They lived in the covered wagon until the sod house was finished. The roof was made of tall grass tied in bundles; the barn was made for the horses the same way. The horses were staked out on ropes until a fence was made from sod piled high enough to keep the horses in. They planted corn by hand for years. Mrs. Thoendel never had a chance to go to school, because there was no school around to go to, She was taught to knit and sew by a neighbor, Mrs. Wallace, so she made the family's clothes as well as knitted the stockings, mittens and hoods. She helped her father buy cattle and knew the value of the stock and could figure without a pencil and rode horseback for miles to do that. Columbus was their closest main town and they made trips regularly for their supplies. After the marriage of Joseph and Anna they settled on a farm one half mile from home, where they lived until 1896, when they bought land from Carl Crocker. Like all of the early settlers they put up with the drought, prairie fires, grass- hoppers and coyotes. For meat they trapped cottontails and prairie chickens. Fish was also plentiful. They kept the meat by wrapping it in sacks and burying it in the ground. For light it was a lantern. In later years, more families came to Holt County. They were the Thramers, Schindlers, Latzels, Bauers, Vander- snicks, Rothleutners, Maullers and many others. All the entertainment was what they made for themselves and it mainly consisted of community singing, square dancing and playing cards. Mr. and Mrs- Thoendel lived past their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Work was their main interest in life and they lived to be a good ripe old age. Ten children were born to this union. Mrs. Thoendel enjoyed piecing quilts, making garden, sports and fishing, while for a hobby, Mr. Thoendel chose reading. Mrs. Thoendel was a gold star mother and be- longed to the American Legion Auxiliary. Mr. Thoendel died at the age of eighty and Mrs. Thoendel at eighty-seven."
