William Derwin Axtell
b. July 22, 1820, in Westhampton, MA., married Harriet Elizabeth Dickinson at St. Stephens Church, Pittsfield, MA., in April, 1849. They lived in Pittsfield for a time, where two sons were born ( about 1852 and '53); both died in infancy. After moving to Northampton, MA., a daughter was born in 1855. They returned to Pittsfield in July, 1865, when he purchased a half interest in the "Berkshire County Eagle" and became sole owner shortly before his death. He died Mar. 25, 1887, at Pittsfield. His wife died Sept. 15,1898.

b. Nov. 19, 1791, in Delaware Co, NY, and was taken when aninfant to
Norwich (now Huntington), MA. In 1813 he married VioletSheldon; she died
Dec. 23, 1858. He reached a good old age, spending his last days with his
youngest son, and died at the home of his brother Daniel at Huntington,March
28, 1880, and was buried at Chesterfield, MA.
