" ANDERSON, Allen Alving
The gates of heaven welcomed Allen A. Anderson on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He was an amazingly tender and remarkable man whose life was filled with family, close friends, travels and adventures too many to count. Allen was born on October 9, 1939 in Hebron, North Dakota. The family soon moved to Greenacres where he graduated from Central Valley High School. He served in the U.S. Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 5 (SeaBees) between 1957 and 1961. He then went to work for Columbia Lighting until 1966. He married Olga Meloslavin in 1963. After that, his family moved to Seattle where he worked for Boeing until 1971. Upon returning to Spokane, he worked as a Union Fabricator at Columbia Lighting for over 30 years. He retired from there in 2002. He leaves behind his lifelong friend and companion of 37 years, Kathleen Ferster. He is survived by his sisters: Karen Hansen (Rod), Beverly Carlander, and Andrea Barrineau (Britt); his children: Jeffrey, Kristine, and Catherine and stepson James Ferster. He also leaves his grandchildren: Joel Cline, Jessica Anderson, Jeffrey Anderson, Jennifer Anderson, Justin Nagel, Trent Ferster, Brooklyn Anderson, Summer Ferster, and great-grand- daughter Rylin West. The welcome mat at Allen and Kathy's door was always open and included several adoptive grandchildren as well. They are Perry Shoaf, Caleb Hanowell, Christopher Helgerson, Jordyn Miller, Nataliya and Tiana Lavrova. There was always more than enough love to be shared and we will miss that greatly! Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Freda Anderson; Olga Anderson, and his brother-in-law, Mike Carlander. We would like to extend a special note of gratitude to Holy Family Hospital staff who were involved in Allen's care while he was so ill. This includes: Les, Dave, Karly, Kathy and especially Miss Dani. They all went out of their way to care for Allen and we owe them all so much. Thanks also to Chaplin Ron for his words of comfort and prayers when Allen passed. We also send our sincere thanks to Dr. Weeks and staff at Cancer Care NW. The family is honoring Allen with a memorial service to be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye, Millwood. There will be a brief graveside ceremony by the U.S. Military Honor Guard following the service at St. Joseph's Cemetery located at 17825 E. Trent for those who wish to attend. Reception to follow.
