John Adam Hoefer
Birth: Feb. 12, 1811, Helferskirchen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany,
Death: Jan. 23, 1890, New Vienna, Dubuque County, Iowa, USA

"I, Adam Hoefer and Barbara Quirnbach were married January 9, 1849 in my Parish church in Helferskirchen and lived there until May 17, 1849. After this we emigrated to America. In Rotterdam we were obliged to wait ten days before the ship took to sea. We were aboard ship 44 days. On the 17th of July we landed at New York. From here we traveled to the state of Ohio and lived in Richland County, in a Catholic settlement, with Germans, for nine months. On April 26, 1850, we left here and arrived at Galena, Illinois May 19, 1850. Here we remained three years. Then in April 1853 we moved to Iowa, Dubuque County in the township of New Vienna. Here I wish to stay until the end of my days if God so wishes. There are ten children of the second marriage. Of these three died and are buried in the Catholic Cemetary, New Vienna, Iowa. (lists 10 children)...My wife, and the mother of these children died December 8, 1871. She was buried in the Catholic cemetary at New Vienna, Iowa on December 10, 1871. O Lord give her Eternal rest and let Perpetual Light shine upon her."
