Margaret Pickens

DWS: 'Chapman and Pugh family history and allied lines' by Minnie May Pugh pub 1963
book references:'Pickens Familes of the South by E. M. Sharp':
"PICKENS FAMILY information (Family of Margaret Pickens who married James Baskin): Reference: Pickens Families of the South by E. M. Sharp: Aargaret Pickens, born 1745, married James Baskin, by tradition in several branches of the Pickens family, was a daughter of William Pickens Jr. by his first wife (name unknown). His second wife was Mrs. Ann (Oliver) Scott whom he married in Augusta County, Va. Wm. Pickens is believed to have been the son of William and Margaret (Pike) Pickens who came from Ireland to Bucks County, Pa. by 1719, and grandson of Robert and Jean Bonneau Pickens of France and Ireland.
Information from Gen. Andrew Pickens and his descendants is that the Pickens family emigrated from France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. It is claimed that Robert Picon, a Scotchman or Briton at the court of France was a Protestant who fled from Scotland in 1661 to avoid persecution of Charles II. In France, he married Madam Jean Bonneau, also a Protestant. When all priviledges to Protestants were revoked, Robert and family fled France for Scotland and thence to North Ireland where they had more religious freedom. The Pickens family were French Huguenots who refused to live under Roman Catholic rule."
