Raymond Francis Thiem

" Ray Thiem was born October 22, 1912, in Cedar Rapids. He was baptized in Cedar Rapids and moved with his family to Humphrey where he was confirmed at St. Francis Catholic Church. He attended elementary and high school at St. Francis in Humphrey.
Ray married Gertrude Schaecher, daughter of Henry A. and Catherine Ramaekers Schaecher, January 23, 1940, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg. They farmed southeast of Petersburg until moving to Loretto in 1947, where he was a mechanic for Charlie Fleek. He was shop foreman at the Ford Garage in Albion from 1949-57, and later was co-owner and operator of T&T Motors in Albion until 1962. Later, he operated Ray's Auto Clinic in Loretto until 1987.
He moved to the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Home in Albion in 1989, following a stroke resulting from heart surgery.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Petersburg, Holy Name Society, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Knights of Columbus. He was a music enthusiast, playing drums for the Johnny Reidmiller Band, The Swing Kings and Tune Tappers for more than 57 years.
Survivors include his wife, four sons: Jim of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Tom of Omaha, Bob of Lincoln and Dick of Ashland; two daughters, Mary Dozler of Elgin and Lucy Morgan of Albion; two brothers, Jerry of Grand Island and Duane of Columbus; one sister, Lucille Thieman of Petersburg; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, two sisters and one brother.

" Gertrude M. Thiem, 95 of Albion, NE passed away Sunday, February 7, 2016 at her home in Albion, NE.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE with Fr. Stan Schmit officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Petersburg, NE. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Levander Funeral Home in Albion, NE.
Gertrude Mary Thiem, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Raemaker) Schaecher, was born February 1, 1921 at Lindsay, NE. She receieved her education at Lindsay schools. On January 23, 1940, Gertrude was united in marriage to Raymond Thiem at the St. John the Baptist Catholic School chapel. Following their marriage, the couple lived east of Loretto, NE where they farmed.
Gertrude was a housewife and also helped her husband with the farm work. She was an avid bird watcher, a great pie maker, especially apple pies, enjoyed playing pickle cards, and was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of the Christian Mothers and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE as well as St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Albion, NE.
Gertrude is survived by her children: James (Diane) Thiem of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Mary (Denis) Dozler of Albion, NE; Tom (Pat) Thiem of Fort Calhoun, NE; Lucy Morgan of Albion, NE; Dick (Jeanette) Thiem of Ashland, NE; 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; brother: Harry Schaecher of San Jose, CA; and sister: Rosie Smith of Mount Angel, OR;
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Ray; two sons: Bob and Bill Thiem; three brothers; and four sisters."

William Raymond Thiem

" Specialist William Raymond Thiem was born March 4, 1948, and was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Thiem of Loretto. He was educated at John's School in Petersburg, graduating with the class of 1966.
Before entering the service, he worked as a mechanic at Bob's Machine Shop in Albion and at Hulac Chevrolet, Omaha.
Bill enlisted in the Army September 18, 1967, and took basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington. He took advanced infantry training at Ft. Polk, Louisiana, and attended NCO school at Ft. Ord, California before going to the Vietnam theatre September 30. He had an 18-day leav at home before going overseas.
He was assigned to "C" Company, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry, 1st infantry Divison. Arrived "in country" on 9-29-1968 and was killed in action in Binh Duong Province, South Vietnam. His name is on Panel 38W Line 080 Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall
Surviving are his parents; four brothers: Thomas, who has just returned from service with the Peace Corps in Peru, James of St. Louis, Missouri, Robert of Omaha, and Richard, with the U. S. Army at Ft. Ord, California; two sisters Mrs. Denis (Mary) Dolzer of Petersburg and Mrs. Marty (Lucille) Morgan of O'Neill; grandparents, Henry Schaecher of Mt. Angel, Oregon and Mrs. Mary Thiem, Petersburg."
