"Melvina Bernadine (Seier) Schmitz, 88, formerly of Petersburg, NE. passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion, NE. Melvina daughter of Anton and Rose (Mescher) Seier, was born December 18, 1923 at Petersburg, NE.
Melvina grew up on a farm near Petersburg, NE. was baptized and confirmed at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and attended St. John's School through the 8th Grade.
Melvina was united in marriage to Albert Schmitz on October 21, 1947 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE. They made their home on a farm near Petersburg where she was a homemaker and helped on the farm. Following the death of husband Albert Schmitz in 1998, she moved to town in January 1999. In 2006, Melvina moved to the Samaritan Estates Assisted Living in Albion, NE. and later entered the Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in July 2008.
Melvina was a member of St. John's Christian Mothers, St. John's Quilters and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Petersburg, NE. She enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening, caring for her chickens and flowers, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Melvina is survived by: daughters: Roselin (Dennis) Kile and Linda (Dale) Schintzler, both of Omaha, NE.; sons: Jim (Karen) Schmitz of Petersburg, NE.; Jerry Schmitz of Curtis, NE.; Bob (Terri) Schmitz of Albion, NE.; Don Schmitz of Elgin, NE.; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters: Rosie (Don) Pelster of Petersburg, NE.; Mary Ann Borer of Albion, NE.; brother: Joe (Connie) Seier of Petersburg, NE.; sisters-in-law: Margaret Seier and Lorraine Seier, both of Petersburg, NE. and a host of relatives and friends.
Melvina was preceded in death by: husband Albert Schmitz in October 1998; brothers: Max, Tony, Delbert and Delmer Seier; sister: Lorraine Seier and brother-in-law: Ervin Borer.
Interment was in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Cemetery, Petersburg, NE. "
