Orin R Currie

DWS: Elgin Review, Elgin, Nebraska
" Orin R. Currie, 95, of Bartlesville, died on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Orin was born on July 23, 1920, in Loretta, Nebraska, son of George W. Currie and Lena Kruse Currie. He graduated from Wheeler County High School in Bartlett, Nebraska, in 1939, and then worked on the family farm for a year before beginning studies at Wayne State College. In July 1943, Orin entered the Navy’s officer candidate training program and, after being commissioned, served in the Pacific. Following his discharge from the Navy, Orin finished his college education at the University of Nebraska where he received his degree in Chemical Engineering in June 1948.
Orin married Marjorie (Marge) Johnston on June 25, 1949, in Lincoln, Nebraska. They made their first home in Borger, Texas, where Orin began working for Phillips Petroleum. Orin and Marge moved to Bartlesville in 1956. He spent much of his career with Phillips working in environmental engineering. In his spare time, Orin was involved with family activities, gardening, Meals on Wheels, Society of Professional Engineers, and the Republican Party. After his retirement in 1984, the Curries enjoyed traveling, spending time with their children and grandchildren, and continuing to be loyal Cornhusker fans.
Orin enjoyed serving at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church as an elder, lay reader, prayer group member, and in many other ways. In a recent interview by the Eisenhower Library about his Navy days, Orin was asked how he wanted to be remembered. He answered “as a faithful Christian.” He will indeed be remembered that way.
Orin is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Currie; a brother Ralph Currie and sisters Irene Currie and Marion Briese. He is survived by two daughters, Kathleen Johnson of Oklahoma City and Marcia Howard (James) of Dallas, Texas; one son, Randall Currie, of Edmond; a grandson Scott (Leia) Johnson of Belleville, Illinois; a granddaughter Katherine Johnson of Chicago, Illinois; and two great-grandsons Will and Ben Johnson of Belleville, Illinois. He is also survived by brothers Wayne Currie of Norfolk, Nebraska, and Roger Currie of Elgin, Nebraska, and sister Lucille Norris of Greeley, Nebraska.
A service in celebration of his life was held at Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dale Scott officiating. Private interment was at the Memorial Park Cemetery directed by Stumpff Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established and those who wish may send contributions to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 801 SE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, Oklahoma, 74005."

Devon Mason Currie

DWS: www.legacy.com/ obituaries
" CURRIE, Devon DEVON MASON CURRIE Devon Mason Currie, 20, of Cumming, GA lost his battle on December 14th, 2008 after enduring Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer, for nearly two years. David and Mary Currie were given the privilege of raising their precious son, Devon Mason Currie since April 27, 1988. Devon was an athlete and warrior at an early age. He was involved with Boy Scouts, loved to fish and river raft, and competed in multiple sports. He began soccer at the age of 4, played baseball, basketball and football. At South Forsyth High School he focused on football, basketball and track; and lettered in all three his junior and senior years. Devon was a very hardworking athlete that gave 100% every play, every race and every throw. He strived to be his best and was a talented, formidable opponent that loved the spirit of competition. He was a member of FCA and attended Perimeter Church. Fulfilling his dream to play college football, Devon was given that opportunity by getting a full scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University where he majored in Criminal Justice. His dream was shattered when he had to leave his teammates to endure chemo, radiation, rib removal and two stem-cell transplants. Even this and further treatments failed to extend his life. His final wish was granted by an anonymous angel from our Deerlake neighborhood. He spent his last day riding 35 miles on his new Suzuki SX650 motorcycle. His family has never seen him so happy, as he told his mom that while on his bike, it felt like he didn't even have cancer. The members of Devon's family that are mourning his absence from their lives include his parents (David and Mary), brothers (Shane and Mason), both paternal and maternal grandparents, many aunts and uncles, cousins and hundreds of friends near and far. Without intending to, Devon's life became an inspiration to others. He humbly went about living life, not knowing that his struggles and journeys would reach so many, young and old. He will be remembered in hearts all over the world, as evidenced by his guestbook on www.caringbridge.org/visit/devoncurrie. In lieu of physical mementos, please consider donating to Devon's Always Fighting Cancer Fund. Fund details are included on his web site. The Money donated will go towards helping those in the future inflicted with cancer; so that they might suffer less and their life-long side effects will be minimized should they be fortunate enough to survive. Devon's Celebration of Life service will be at 2 p.m. on December 19th at Perimeter Church [perimeter@perimeter.org], 9500 Medlock Bridge Road, Duluth, GA 30097 [Phone: 678-405-2000]. Condolences may be expressed on-line at www.mcdonaldandson.com. Arrangements by McDonald and Son Funeral Home & Crematory, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040 (770) 886-9899 "
